Every day I see women who cannot accept their
greatness. Even the strongest of women - who are leaders and
servers of society find the time to berate themselves, undervalue
themselves and listen to the little voice inside their head
that tells them they are not worthy. They feel like imposters
in their own lives.
How do I know? I was one of them.
I have watched many a woman dedicate her life to raising
her children, suporting the family and her husband or partner
and at the end of the day - no matter how much she has accomplished
discount her contribution to the world. She is tired, feeling
unfulfilled and wondering how she will do it all again tomorrow.
And for the most part this goes on for years and years.
What we never consider is that we are all connected.
And when one part of us is wounded and hurt - we all suffer.
According to Health Canada and Statistics Canada, between
7.9% - 8.6% of adult Canadians will experience a major depression
or anxiety at some point during their lifetime. In the USA
the numbers are staggering as well. Between 13 million and
14 million people - will experience a depressive disorder
in any given year.
Twice as many women are depressed than men. This is a frightening
epidemic. Has anyone ever asked why?
Women are the caretakers of our world. We take care of family,
community issues, raise awareness and strive for peace. But
we do not take care of ourselves. Many never fulfill lifelong
dreams and passions because they don't take the time to discover
them. And those of us who do - and set out to serve - burn
out far too quickly.
We search for meaning in religion, in work, in our families
and in our love relationships - but never find the answers.
That is because the answers lie in each of us. It is time
to take the time to listen to the wisdom that is 'God' or
'The Creator' that is within us..
